Notes Sent To the Clover Junior Shag Club

Members of the Clover Junior Shag club,

I just want to say what a great Junior SOS this was this year and for me one of the most delightful times was spent with some of the juniors from your club. I spent much time with Trey and James and had the opportunity to get to know them because we all stayed with the Alexanders. I want to say what nice young men both of you are and I enjoyed the time I spent with you on Cory's dance floor, in conversation, and watching the Grand Nationals Dance Competition DVD's late night. I also had to have the privilege of dancing with some of you at Duck's. Thank you so much for asking. You are all doing so well so don't stop shagging.

If ever I can help any of you in any way when we are together at an event, don't hesitate to ask. You are fortunate to have the instructors in your club that love the dance and are doing a great job with your classes to prepare you for your future to be the best shagger you can be and I have to say that one of my very favorite dance partners is a member of your club....Cory Alexander. Just wish he would get old fast so that he could be MY competitive dance partner.

Those of you who have sent notes of thanks for the shoes you were able to select recently, I appreciate the time you took to write the notes and I will keep them in my memory book. Just remember that the shoe drive might have been my idea, but it is those people who donated the shoes you are wearing that need to be given the thanks. Very soon we hope to have a message board on the Ellen Taylor Foundation web site and perhaps you can place a message there for others to see. Those who donated the shoes will be pleased to see the notes and to think you may be shagging in a pair of their shoes.

Again, I really enjoyed meeting you and hope sometime in the future to make a trip up your way to one of the shag parties.

Don't change who and what you are today....beautiful, well-mannered young people who are wonderful examples to all of the other juniors who will be looking at you in the future. What you decide to be and do with your life in the future is determined by what path you choose to take now.

Good luck this next year in your school studies. Remember your priorities - God first, school studies, and then shagging.

With Love to all of you,

Mrs. Ellen

After traveling to Myrtle Beach to attend Junior SOS 2007, I have learned a lot about South Carolina’s state dance and why we love it so much.

Most of the nearly 300 juniors took advantage of the many opportunities to attend special classes and workshops to learn more difficult shag steps, myself included. There were workshops to learn the Sugarfoot, the Pivot, the Bellyroll, and a personal favorite, the Elvis, plus much more. The teachers, former junior shaggers, were extremely helpful, patient, knowledgeable, and most importantly, fun! The classes greatly improved most juniors’ shag style.

Walking down the street or across the sand was almost like walking down the street in our hometown; it was near impossible to not see someone you knew. Clover was extremely well represented at Junior SOS 2007. Out of almost 300 junior shaggers present, approximately 40 of them were Blue Eagles. These numbers are a truly good indication that the dance is sure to live on.

Morghan Alexander
