Week 1 – Basic Shag 1 – This is the very first class and the most important. These steps are the foundation for everything you will learn in the other workshops, and how well you know these will determine how fast you learn the other steps.

• Basic Step
• Female Turn
• Male Turn

Week 2 – Basic Shag 2 - This is a quick review of the steps from Basic Shag 1 with a
couple of simple, but important, new steps added. Since this class has a review of Basic Shag 1, it is a good class to repeat until you are very comfortable with all steps in the first two classes.

• Review Basic Shag 1 Steps
• Start Step
• Trail (Walk-By Turn)

Week 3 - Basic Shag 3 – This is another quick review of the key steps that you have
learned so far. This class adds another simple variation to the turns you have already
learned and teaches you the Sugarfoot. The Sugarfoot is always done as a pattern or
mirror step and it is usually taught the same way by everyone, so most people you dance with will know how to do it..

• Review Basic Shag 1 and 2 Steps
• Tuck Turn
• Sugarfoot (including set-up)

Week 4 – Intermediate Shag 1 – We will start with a quick review of the Sugarfoot
followed by a line dance lesson in the Electric Slide. The Boogie Walk will be the new
shag step in this class.

• Review Sugarfoot
• Electric Slide – Line dance
• Boogie Walk

Week 5 – Intermediate Shag 2 – The double turns will be simple and fun. The pivot is a
step you must practice with a partner. It is one of the most important steps and is used
very often by all dancers. It is very important for you to learn to master this step. It is also one of the more difficult steps you will learn. The pivot will take a lot of practice.

• Review Boogie Walk
• Male and Female Double Turns
• Pivot

Week 6 – Intermediate Shag 3 – We will work on the Pivot again to make sure you
have this important step. Then you will learn the fun Duck Walk.

• Review Male and Female Double Turns
• Pivot
• Duck Walk

Fill In Steps and More Advanced Steps:

The Hop – A mirror or pattern step for dancers that are already able to do the steps
taught in the Basic Shag classes.

Pivot Variations – You must be comfortable doing the Pivot before taking this class. The Belly Roll is an “add on” at the end of the Pivot. The break Away Pivot is a variation of the Pivot

• Belly Roll
• Break Away Pivot

Tush-Push (Junior Style) – You do not have to know how to shag to take this class. This class will teach the Tush-Push line dance, plus variations the Juniors throw in that the adults are too uptight and easily embarrassed to try. Some of these variations are: The Lost Man, Hand Jive, Low Rider, Lasso, Cabbage Patch, Jamie, Dead Man, etc.

Basic Variations: There are several variations of the Basic that can be done by the male or female about any time they want to use them in place of the regular Basic to add variety. You need to be able to do the regular Basic very well before trying to learn
variations. These are only a few Basic Variations that you can learn when you are ready as fill-ins to regular classes.

• Crossover
• Sailor Shuffle
• Kick Basic
• Hesitation
.

Male and Female Lead Steps – This class is for dancers that already have a good understanding of the basics. They will learn simple steps they can do on their on while dancing with any partner. Which steps are taught and the names of the steps will be up to
the instructor and the level of dancing skill in the class.

Instructor Assisted Practice – This is a session set aside where music is played continuously so dancers of all levels can practice what they have been taught in recent workshops. Experienced dancers or instructors will be available to help them one on one
on anything they need. The intent is to help them master steps they have already had lessons in, not to teach new steps. This can be during practice time at the end of a lesson or a special session where no new steps are taught.
